How We Teach

Jani is the calm focused one. Kristina is the talkative energetic one. Together we provide an exciting classroom environment that provides deliberate instruction. We teach a clear link between the dance and the music that is the dance. We help our students understand the concepts of embrace, posture, balance, and connection, which are all essential components. In addition, our dance and teachings truly focus on the walk – the most basic and important movement in Tango.

We also teach what can be seen in our dance, namely elegance, simplicity, and natural movement. Natural movement is often falsely understood to mean being “soft” and “organic”. Tango is a dance and will feel unnatural at first. However, the movements found in Tango should be natural and include such things as walking with your heel first, standing upright, bending your knees only as much as you do when you normally walk, and allowing for hip movement (not to be mistaken as forced “latin” hips).

Finally, Tango is a dance that is based on male and female energies. We strive to enable our students to rediscover these energies within themselves so that women can dance sensually, gracefully, and independently, and men can dance with confidence, clear intention, and strength. Within these energies and the beauty of the music, dancers can discover the feelings found within the embrace of Argentine Tango.
